Teacher Certification Program

Begin the 50-Hour Prerequisite Course

Become a Certified K-6 Grade Teacher

This course is a 50-hour, 5 week online course for individuals who already have a bachelor’s degree and want to become a certified K-6 grade teacher through our alternative teacher certification program.

It is the first step required by the New Jersey Department of Education for prospective teachers seeking an alternate route leading to initial licensure. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Verification of Program Completion (VOPC) for a school district to obtain a Provisional Teacher license for you to begin teaching. Successful completion of this prerequisite course also entitles you to direct admission to Pillar College’s online 350-hour program for provisional teachers.

Your coursework includes seminars on the role of the professional elementary classroom teacher, classroom management, teaching exceptional and diverse learners, lesson planning, and instructional strategies. You will also complete field experiences and classroom observations.

Enrollment in the course is ongoing so you can work and complete your coursework at a place and time that is convenient for you. Turn your aspirations into reality today!
