The goal of the ESL Program at Pillar College is to provide non-native English speakers improvement upon their overall literacy skills in English as well as student-entered instruction in developmental, practical and academic language skills. Create intercultural competency awareness in our students so that they may develop into thoughtful, educated, globally-minded citizens.

The ESL Program at Pillar College merges the best features of well-known communicative methodologies while offering a balance of all four language skills, vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar to help students learn to communicate with confidence and gain knowledge and understanding of how to apply learning strategies for academic English use in all of the students’ courses.

The strength of the program is that students who enter the Associate of Arts in General Studies program can develop and build English-proficiency skills while earning college credits that lead to an A.A. degree. Upon successful completion of the program, students are expected to be adequately prepared for English-only college courses and pursue their bachelor’s degree at Pillar College or any other four-year institution in the United States.

Students in this program earn an A.A. in general studies and take courses for college credit in Spanish and a bilingual Spanish/English to English-only sequential format. The program can be completed in five semesters. (for more information see the Programa BLEND link).

Students may also choose to take ESL classes only on a part-time basis. Classes are bi-weekly in the evenings. Students will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

Designed for: • F-1 undergraduate students at Pillar College in the A.A. in General Studies program.

Depending on the student’s English proficiency level when entering the program. Students can expect to take 2-5 semesters of courses in EAP.
