B. Keith Brewer, PhD

Director of Global Learning Experiences (GLE) and Professor of Biblical Studies

Dr. Keith Brewer has been a Professor of Biblical Studies and the Director of the Global Learning Experience (GLE) at Pillar College since 1994. He is also an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Theology at Spring Arbor University (2016-present), and an affiliate professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary (2004 to present). He was a lecturer at Princeton University’s Department of Religion and The University Center for Human Values at Princeton University (1999-2016), and a visiting professor at the Russia United Methodist Theological Seminary in Moscow (2007).

His ministry experience includes Director of the Graduate Christian Fellowship (InterVarsity Christian Fellowship) at Princeton University (1992-2016), Director of Evangelism and Discipleship at Aldersgate United Methodist Church (1989-1993), Apprentice Pastor at Hillsdale Free Methodist Church (1982), Youth Pastor at Gethsemane United Brethren in Christ Church (1980-1981), Campus Life Director with South-Central Michigan Youth for Christ (1979-1981), and Chaplain of the Wesley Foundation (official campus ministry of the United Methodist Church).

Dr. Brewer’s professional memberships include the Institute for Biblical Research (IBR), the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), and the Wesleyan Theological Society (WTS). He is also a published author, having completed numerous book reviews in various academic journals, an English translation of a German article in the Journal of Higher Criticism, and an article in the Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible.

Keith graduated from Spring Arbor College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, a psychology minor, and a secondary teaching certification. He earned a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary (1985), a Master of Theology (Th.M.) in Biblical Studies: New Testament from Princeton Theological Seminary (1987), a certification in reading German from The Graduate School at Princeton University (1990), and a Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. in Biblical Studies: New Testament from The Caspersen School of Graduate Studies at Drew University (1995 & 2005). He also served as a research assistant to the Rev. Dr. Frederic H. Borsch for his book, Keeping Faith at Princeton: A Brief History of Religious Pluralism at Princeton and Other Universities (Oxford and Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2012). Dr. Brewer has a reading knowledge of classical Hebrew, Hellenistic (Koiné) Greek, Latin, modern French, and modern German.
