September 16, 2022

Joshua Hildebrand, a psychology and counseling student and intern at Pillar College, recently was offered a paid position and partial internship with Owen Healthcare, Inc. Hildebrand received this offer after attending the Pillar College Career Fair held August 25th at the college’s Newark campus, where Owen Healthcare was one of 16 vendors at the event hosted by Pillar in partnership with OSHE.

“Joshua attended the fair and made a great impression with the reps,” said Ingrid Ortiz, Career Services & Internship Coordinator. “I am very proud of his networking skills and determination to complete the program here at Pillar College and work hard to meet his post-graduation career goals. I sent around an email to encourage others and to applaud Joshua for staying focused and determined to succeed,” she said.

Pillar College is the only accredited Christian college in the state of New Jersey that offers classes throughout the state, including locations in Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Plainfield, and Ocean Grove, as well as classes online. Licensed by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education and accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), Pillar College offers seven undergraduate degree programs and three graduate degree programs. In 2021 Pillar College was awarded Best Accelerated Degree Program by intelligent.com.

The college recently started the Pillar Academy of Continuing Education (PACE) to provide a variety of certificate programs as well as individual courses with flexible schedules for persons seeking continuing education. Pillar students may choose to enroll in any of hundreds of courses. The following sampling of course titles shows the wide variety of classes available in the PACE program: Learning to Teach Online; Launching Your Online Business; Suicide Prevention; Christian Ministry; Introduction to Cybersecurity Essentials; and Early Childhood Education. Course offerings are designed to meet market demands as well as the needs of emerging leaders.

PACE Director Elena Marin was encouraged by the interest in the PACE program expressed by visitors at the career fair, as well as by more than 40 career fair participants who met with her and with vendors. “Our goal is to address the educational needs of a diverse population,” Marin said. “The goal of the PACE program is to offer long-awaited certificate courses to augment resumes for degree-seeking students, draw new students to our degree programs, and provide up-skill opportunities to the community at large,” she said.
